YoungBoy Never Broke Again might face more jail time after he was charged in connection with a prescription drug fraud scheme
On Thursday, April 19, HipHopDX published a police affidavit that details why the Louisiana native was arrested earlier this week at his home in Utah. The 10-page document explains the results of a months-long investigation into an alleged plan YB and his associates executed to illegally obtain promethazine with codeine. The suspect allegedly posed as a real doctor and called in prescriptions for the cough syrup to pharmacies across the state of Utah. His associates would then go to the pharmacies to pick up the drug.
The affidavit says the suspect used real names of actual doctors in the area and provided authentic, "valid DEA number, NPI number and other identification" necessary to order the prescription. In the first incident that took place last year, the suspect called into Reed's Pharmacy to request a prescription for a "Bethel White." The pharmacy didn't recognize the phone number so they called the actual physician, who confirmed they didn't have a patient named "Bethel White." This similar scheme occurred several more times at other pharmacies.
In a separate, the suspect called Spence's Pharmacy with the same doctor's information but for a different patient "Gwendlyn Cox." Two weeks later, a woman picked up the prescription and claimed it was for her grandmother. Earlier this year, the suspect hit up Larry's Pharmacy with a similar request for a "Gwendolyn Cox" (same name with different spelling). Once the order was confirmed to be fake, police waited until YoungBoy's two associates went to the store to pick up the new prescription and arrested them on the spot. Police reached out to the number provided for "Gwendolyn Cox" the following day.
"During the conversation with 'Gwendolyn' it was very clear that a fake voice was being used," the affidavit says. "'Gwendolyn' sounded as though she was a much younger male from the southern states. Gwendolyn made a statement 'well I axed her to and she said that she'll have you call me.' According to your Affiant's training and experience and having lived in the Southern United States, the terminology in replacing the work 'ask' with 'axe' or other variations, is consistent with a southern dialect in states such as Texas, Louisiana, Georgia and other southern states."
NBA YoungBoy is facing at least 63 charges in total including 20 separate counts of āprocuring or attempting to procure any drug/prescription plus 20 counts each of forgery and identity fraud. He also faces a drug count, a gun count and one charge of āpattern of unlawful activity.ā The 24-year-old artist has been ordered to be extradited to Louisiana for a hearing to decide on the status of his house arrest regarding a federal gun case in his home state. So far, there's no update on his bail.
